Weekend Retreat
This weekend I went on this retreat with some of my friends from church, well there my friends outside of church to but we go to the same church. Anyways the retreat was held at Okoboji Lutheran Bible camp. They do a lot of summer camps in the summer being they are on the lake an all. We obviously didnt spend to much time outside at this time of the year. It was a ton of fun. I went there in the summer and I made friends with 3 of the counselors and they have a ton. It just so happened that all 3 were there when I got to go. It was great because I havent seen them since June. Our full day (Saturday) went by fast. We took part in a lot of fun activities and went to chapel and all that good stuff. I had a ton of fun, I'm glad I went and I will be highly considering the spring retreat!
Embarrassment
Like every Sunday I went to the Y and played indoor soccer. This was our 4th or 5th game. We have yet to find a goalie, so if anyone wants come talk to me! But so we didnt have all of our players there or a goalie this time. We had to switch off goalie about every 2 goals. We got so embarrassed it wasnt even funny. I lost track of the score after 12-3..I hope we can improve and at least stay competative with the teams. thats all k bye

Big Decision
This Sunday I have a HUGE decision to make! The choices are go to the Sunday Night Football game (Bears at Vikings), or play with the indoor team I'm a part of. This is going to be the toughest week for us, we play the best team, so wouldn't you think I should be there. On the other hand the Vikings and Bears are playing for a first place spot in the NFC north. Whoever loses that game is basically done for the year. Earlier in the week I was leaning towards play with Todos Blancos, as of right now I'm kinda thinking Vikings because if I don't go to that game, the game I will go to will be the Giants at Vikings game. Thats the last game of the season and probably won't matter for either team so they won't be throwing their A game out there. I don't want to let my team down though. We'll see how it all plays out.

Todos Blancos
Our indoor soccer team won our first game today 6-4, we are now 1-1. We could have done a lot better IF THE FRICKIN FLOOR WAS SWEPT! I guess they only sweep it on mondays and our games are sundays, by the time we are out our shoes are covered in dust! And it really has an effect because you slip and slide and its tough, but other than that i thought we played fairly good. We could have finished a little better but thats alright. By next week our rosters and uniforms have to be set in stone! We are getting a goalie and maybe 2 more players im looking forward to the rest of the season! k bye

3rd string starters!!?
I've noticed something. The cheifs starting QB Tyler Thigpen...Drafted by the vikes used to be our 3rd string..Earlier in the year San Fransisco's starter was J.T. O'sullivan, another minnesota 3rd stringer..But after a while J.T. got benched, San Frans new starter was Shaun Hill. Yep shawn backed up the vikes as well. The Cowboys starting QB is Tony Romo. Romo (never a viking) got injured earlier in the season so the Cowboys stuck in good ole' Brad Johnson. Not a vikings 3rd, but most certainly a Viking. Actually he was a double viking. He played for us left for a period of time and then came back..and then later left again! Brad wasnt doing the job for the 'boys so they signed Brooks Bollinger! Hey what do ya know! He was 2nd string for minnesota and later demoted to 3rd string when we had Tavaris starting and Brad in the number two slot. Oh and Daunte Culpepper now starts for the Lions! He was actually good though so he doesnt count in this ! Pretty soon the whole NFL will be run by vikings 3rd string QB's ! ha thats all.. k bye

Team All White!
This sunday was our first game. Im a part of a indoor soccer team at the Y. There is a league there with i dont even know how many teams! But we played today and we didnt do as bad as i thought we would. We lost 7-5. It was a ton of fun! At the same time really tiring too. I think its really going to help us improve for the upcoming soccer season, because its very fast pace and you have to make quick decisions! Its probably going to be a long season but if we find a keeper and two more players we shouldnt have that tough of a time!
Vikes v Pack
The Vikings and Packers squared off today at the metrodome in Minneapolis Minnesota. The two rivals played once earlier this year, and the packers came away with a W. The vikings wanted revenge and you could see it! They started off strong stopping the packers and scoring on their first drive of the game. At half time the score was 14-10 in favor of the vikings. Starting the second half the packers were coming off a field goal and the vikings need to make their lead more convincing! Well the game went back and forth and before you know it the vikings defense was hitting aaron rodgers every play, they had two safetys! but there QB Gus Frerotte had thrown 3 crucial interceptions in which the packers made points out of. 5 minutes left in the 4th and it was 27-21 the packers lead. Adrian Peterson. He had a monster game today and the final drive he took the vikings down the field and scored, the score was 28-27. The packers still had a chance though there were still 2 minutes on the clock! They took it down the field, and 26 seconds said the clock 52 yard field goal mason crosby to win, and he missed. Game over Vikes win. Vikings 5-4 Packers 4-5. That was a very close game but by all means should have been a blow out if it werent for the silly mistakes Frerotte made! I dont want to shoot him down though cause they did come away with a win. Alls im saying is we cant always hope that the team we play misses a game winning field goal

Minnesota weather
Minnesota weather is absolutely insane!! Its November and it was at least 65 today!! Every sunday my football friends and i get together and play backyard football by the side of my house! We've been doing it for a while now. What im getting at is, last week we played in the snow and blistering cold wind! The next week comes we are playing in shorts and t-shirts..sweating. This is some wild and wacky stuff we got here! ha and the rest of the week is suppose to be in the 50s and 60s with some rain! Its really weird, maybe its global warming!! who knows whatever k bye

halloween!
I remember being a little kid and halloween was on my list of favorite holidays! 2nd next to chritmas of course! The idea of kids dressing up in costumes and knockin on peoples door for candy is kind of weird when you think about it? Ha but it was always a lot of fun. My friends and I use to get pillow cases full of candy! Once you get older halloween sorta fades a little. You still remember it and maybe go to the haunted house, watch a scary movie or two, or go to a party! This year we were fortunate that the holiday landed on a friday! What a great time to have a party, I will be attending one shortly and im somewhat excited. I am stealing my youth directors idea of being a sandwich! Take 2 pieces of bread put one on my stomach one on my back and saran wrap it! ah great fun. k bye

Choir Concert
This past Friday was our first choir concert of the year. I am in concert choir this year, like all the other sophomore boys, and our concert choir is pretty good. If you compare them to last years we are absolutely terrible! But that's just because last years concert choir was amazing and i wish i could have been apart of it. Our first couple of songs went pretty well. When we pulled out the book of Vivaldi it wasn't so great. In the book there is 4 pieces we sing with the orchestra when we performed them they weren't but they were by no means good. We had two shows that night the first one we did alright but the second one was a little better! I think choir concerts are a lot of fun and the majority of the time you arent performing so its a good social time for you and your friends. I know i had fun. I hope our choir can improve some and im looking forward to all the upcoming shows and festivals! k bye
Fifa 09
Fifa 09 has officially come out as of October 15th!..I got it on that day. Although I played 07 and 08 with my friends all the time, I havent owned a fifa game since 06 which is a great game! Let me tell you im happy with the purchase! I bought it for xbox 360, the graphics are great, the movement is good and all the extras and features are great! If im not playing in tournament mode with my friends I like playing manger mode and be a pro, they are both really fun. In manager mode you pick a team to coach and you deal with trades rosters scouts and basically everything! In be a pro you pick one pro (or make your own) and you play with a team and try to lead that team to a cup! There are only a few things I dont like about the game, they are only minor things though. One is when your looking at your roster you have to push a button to see the fatigue/tiredness, where in 06 it was right there with the overall! This might not sound like much but its kind of a hassle when you need to sub your tired players and you dont know how good the subs are. Another thing and probably the only other thing is you cant manage your roster right before the match you have to change it for good, then change it back. These little flaws do not keep me from playing the game and they also dont stop me from beating Jeffy, Spencer and Dan everytime i play them! :P

Vikings vs. Bears
I was on my way home from the boundary waters today (sunday) and we were listening to the vikings and bears game. It was a pretty close game all through. But from what I heard it was a typical bears win, they get a couple lucky bounces and they win. I mean Kluwe could have easily just fell on that ball instead of trying to pick it up and punt it again! Its just stupid mistakes on are part that are holding us back from the 1st place position! Who would expect a 48-41 game too! I mean we are talking Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears!! Two of the leagues best defenses and not so talented offense! 13-10 sounds more reasonable! But at least it was an exciting game!
BWCA
Today ended the long weekend for us. I just got back from being up north for 4 days. It was a lot of fun like I said in my last blog it was my dad and I and then Joel and Sam Matheson. We had a ton of fun. The first night we stayed at Lake Polly and the camp site we stayed at was amazing! The next day we headed up to Malberg, this lake is really pretty, our camp site there was pretty good too, but im not sure any of the sites could beat the one we stayed at on Lake Polly. If you dont remember from my last blog, the boundary waters is up north, and there are many different entry points you can start at, once you portage and paddle in aways you are far from the real world it is so peaceful and nice. Portaging is where there is a gap of land between lakes and you have to take everything out of the canoe and hike to the next area. They are measured in what they call "rods" A rod is about the length of a canoe, or 5 yards. None of the portages this year were to tough the longest one we had was 136 rods. And although it might seem easy its not, because you are either carrying a heavy canoe, or a really heavy pack! The ground isnt flat either there are a lot of rocks and hills along the way, but its totally worth it once you get to the spot you want! I highly suggest you think about going sometime if you havent already!

Upcoming Week!
This upcoming week is going to be a ton of fun. To start things off on the right track we dont have school Thursday or Friday! So we have a short week, but on either Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning I'm headed up to the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota for a canoe trip.! I love it up there, We haven't taken a trip there in over 2 years. When I go its usually my dad me and Joel and Sam Matheson. Joel is my dad's friend and Sam's a friend of mine so it works out nice. We always have fun up there, its incredibly beautiful and every lake in the Boundary Waters has restrictions on boats, there arent any that can go on the lakes, so you can basically drink the water straight fromt he lake. We always see some wild life up there, one time my dad got about 10 yards away from a big moose. He got an awesome picture off it as you can see. So to end this blog I just wanna tell you im really excited!

The Glass Passenger
I just got the new Jack's Mannequin CD "The Glass Passenger" not to long ago. I've listened to it a little and I like it a lot. Some of my friends don't like it as much. One of them said that they changed to much. I think bands change all the time and I personally like the so called "new sound". The first half of the CD is awesome!!.. and then there are a few live songs from there old CD on the bottom half. There old CD is pretty good too! My favorite song so far on the new album would have to be "Spinning"...I dont know maybe you won't like it I recommend it though, give it a chance and check it out !

Cool people dumb decisions
I dont know where to start. I guess you could just say im really fed up with gifted and talented human beings who potentially throw there lives or highschool career away just to get high/drunk or have sex on the weekends. I mean to me its just not worth it!! What if you had a kid or gotten an STD!? And for drinking and drugs, not only will you get a bad reputation, your parents pissed at you along with some of your friends, but your gunna get kicked off your team or at least have to sit have the season pending on the situation. It just doesnt make sense! You work hard every practice trying to improve and get better you take one drink get caught and bye bye to all the hard work/the season! And then colleges find out and your screwed there too! Not for all colleges but maybe the one you were thinking about going to! It just makes me sick to my stomach to see these wonderful athletes/students throw everything away cause they think there invincible. If you truly take the time and think about it, ITS NOT WORTH IT! k bye :)

A simply sad soccer showdown
This past Tuesday the Albert Lea boys soccer team traveled to Winona to face off against the winhawks. To begin with it was a long 2 hour bus ride! But since we got to miss a class in school and it was coach the ride wasnt too bad. I'm on the Junior Varsity team so we play at 5 before the varsity. After our warm ups we the game begun. Only about 10 minutes into the game the winhawks knocked a fluky goal in. It was a bad cross and the kid that scored it just stuck his foot out behind him and it took a weird bounce and went in. We were all pretty disappointed because we knew we could compete with these guys and they were already up on us! We both played a hard fought rest of the half! The second half approached we wanted this bad. Nothing was happening the score remain 1 nil. With about 15 minutes left they scored again! it was 2-0. Almost 5 minutes later we got one to the back of the net ! There was only about 8 minutes left at this point! Well the clock ran down WE LOST! Everyone was incredibly pissed off! We shouldve had 3 penalty kicks in that game! And they should not have scored those too goals! The varsity was next they also lost but unlike our game the right team one they were out played! We had another game saturday and we pulled off a win 4-1 against byron. Our next game is tuesday where we match up with John Marshall
Vikes
30-17 was the final score of the Tennessee , Minnesota game today. Tennessee has just made history for themselves by being 4-0. I think overall they got lucky in this game though. They had a lot of calls go there way and balls bounce there ways, but thats just my opinion! I think Gus Frerotte did a great job but that our receivers were dropping some crucial balls! Adrian did alright but when the passing game isnt working teams know all they have to stop is Peterson, and they are right. I dis-like the coaching staff here in minnesota. We dont know how to call plays at all! we are so predicatable! if we changed it up a bit we'd be harder to beat. I also think Mr. Jared Allen needs to step it up...he came here to make a difference and he's gettin paid big bucks for it, havent seen much out of him yet this year! Hopefully we see some improvement next week!

Vikings
Can the Minnesota Vikings embarrass us one more time this sunday? or are we going to get to brag to others about our first win! As of now I'm glad Childress selected Gus Ferrote, but if Gus does as bad as T-jack has been doing its not going to be good. I actually dont put the blame on Tavaris because i dont think its his fault. I think its the bogus play calling! Jackson's only chance to pass comes on third and long! Where hes pressured to convert or else! we need to get him confortable with the offense Quarterbacks are suppose to lead a team! If you say hes not doing a very good job of it your somewhat right but really give him a chance! If every game is like last sundays Adrian Peterson is going to be injured for good by week 8, and teams are going to watch film and know that thats all we got! We will see what happens this sunday!
Homecoming
Its 34-35 in over-time tiger fans on there feet yelling as if we could purchase new throats at wal-mart. Clay Anderson head coach of the tigers is faced with a decisions to make, go for two or play it safe and kick the extra point? He decides going for 2 points is the best option. Now roaring louder than ever the fans are anxious to see what happens!? Quarterback Cody Hansen drops back, scrambles to the right has somebody open touchdown!!!...wait no there calling it back ! they say he was out of bounds!! End of the game score Mankato East Cougars 35 Albert Lea Tigers 34. We just lost another one of our football games, like usually. I dont know if im the only one who thinks that when the game is on the line like that you need to play it safe and kick the extra point! Yeah coach anderson wouldve been worshiped if they wouldve converted.....but they didnt! and tiger fans are faced with another heart-breaking defeat! It was a tough thing to get over but i did. Its not the fact that we lost another football game or that we didnt convert, its the fact that we could have easily, easily!! won that game..and we didnt. After that horrible loss there was one thing that did cheer everyone up and that was the homecoming dance! i think a lot of people had fun there and although we lost it was a good way to end the fun-filled homecoming week.

The word "Emo"
The word emo is overused and missed used like crazy. I mean what does it even mean? emotional ? arent we all. If you listen to alternative muisc, theres people who call you "emo" which i dont understand because they tie in listening to different music than everyone else to cutting your self?.. I listen to different music and i do NOT cut myself, or anything even close to that! its crazy, quite annoying as well! I no not everyone is as nice as some people but at least they could keep there mouth shut. I guess its just human nature to judge.

Homework
I am a 10th grade student at Albert Lea High School. Like most kids who attend I enjoy the part of school where I'm able to see my friends, and dislike the homework and stress that comes along with it!
Here at ALHS we have a 7 period day, each period consisting of approximately 50 minutes. Today I had homework in every single one of my 7 classes except for choir. We are only in the second week of school! I don't even want to think about whats to come. Although not all the homework assignments were long, when you get 6 classes of it, it all adds up. For someone like me who is involved in extracirricular activitys it is quite difficult to get all of the homework done on time and to the best ability. I barely had time to eat supper! Am i saying we should ban homework all together? No not at all! I think some homework is good. But if it continues like this everyday I do not see how I will get decent grades in all 7 of my classes. You could argue well the kids need to learn how to do work on there own, and I agree with that fully its just the amount that we get im disagreeing with. One teacher that I have does not assign any homework on fridays. That is very nice for the students. Most of us are tired from the week and cannot wait for the weekend. And sometimes are weekend plans are demolished because of homework. I believe that you can affectivly teach a course with out assigning loads of homework week in and week out. If I get 10 hours of homework per week the whole year (which is two hours per day) I think i might go insane. But if theres some weeks i get a lot and some weeks teachers decide to ease up a bit ill be totally fine! Again its not so much homework in general that makes me mad its the amount of it.
